Year 6 recently attended Carr Hill High School to take part in a science lesson. As well as familiarising themselves with the school, it was a useful opportunity to find out about science in high school.
The children were presented with 2 challenges. The first being to extract salt from rock crystals and the 2nd to design a space craft that would safely land a raw egg!
The children really enjoyed using the equipment to firstly dissolve the salt in the rock crystals in water, then filter the solution to leave salt water, boil the solution to evaporate the water, finally leaving pure salt.
The next challenge involved the use of various materials to land a raw egg safely! There was great excitement as some eggs landed safely without breaking, whereas others were not particularly successful - leaving quite an eggy mess on the playground!
