Enrichment at KWPS
At Kirkham and Wesham Primary School, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom. Our rich programme of enrichment provides children with memorable experiences that inspire curiosity, build confidence and help them discover new interests and talents.
Enrichment is carefully planned to complement our curriculum, deepen children's understanding of the world around them and develop the knowledge, skills and character needed to succeed in modern Britain.
Through our school motto, Belong, Believe and Be the Best You Can Be, we encourage every child to embrace new opportunities, challenge themselves and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Bringing Learning to Life
We believe that children learn best through meaningful, first-hand experiences. Our carefully planned programme of educational visits and enrichment allows children to explore, discover and experience the world beyond the classroom.
By the time they leave Year 6, every child at KWPS will have experienced a rich programme of visits designed to build their cultural capital, broaden their horizons and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Our aim is that every child will have visited:
- a working farm
- museums and historical places
- the seaside and coastline
- rivers and natural environments
- a zoo
- places of worship
- local libraries
- theatres and live performances
- sporting venues
- the capital city of London.
Alongside these visits, children enjoy a wide range of enrichment opportunities including:
- Forest School
- Young Voices at the AO Arena
- iRock School of Music
- whole-class instrumental tuition
- themed curriculum days
- sporting festivals and competitions
- British Science Week
- World Book Day
- author and librarian visits
- STEM workshops
- performances, concerts and productions
- charity and community events.
These memorable experiences enable children to apply their learning in real-life contexts while developing confidence, resilience, independence and a lifelong love of learning.
Inspirational People – Inspiring Futures
One of the unique features of enrichment at KWPS is our Inspirational People – Inspiring Futures programme.
Throughout the year, we welcome inspirational members of our local community and beyond into school to share their experiences, careers and passions with our pupils. Children have the opportunity to meet people from a wide range of professions and backgrounds, helping them understand how the knowledge and skills they develop in school can lead to exciting opportunities in the future.
Our visitors include professionals from science, engineering, technology, business, the creative arts, photography, the Armed Forces, emergency services, local government, charities, environmental organisations, faith communities and many other sectors. These experiences raise aspirations, broaden children's horizons and help them understand the many different pathways available to them.
Learning from Our Community
We are proud of the strong partnerships we have built within our local community. Throughout the year, children benefit from learning alongside a wide range of visitors and organisations who enrich our curriculum and bring learning to life.
These include:

- charity organisations
- community volunteers.
These partnerships help children develop a deeper understanding of the world around them while strengthening their sense of community and belonging.
