Inspirational People – Inspiring Futures
At Kirkham and Wesham Primary School, we believe that children should be inspired by the people around them and understand that there are many exciting pathways available to them in the future.
Through our Inspirational People – Inspiring Futures project, we welcome visitors from a wide range of professions, careers and community organisations into school. These visitors share their experiences, skills and knowledge, helping children make meaningful links between their learning and the wider world.
Our visitors support many areas of the curriculum, including Science, English, Computing, Religious Education, PSHE, British Values, Music, History and the Arts, while also raising children's aspirations and encouraging them to think positively about their own futures.
Children have the opportunity to learn from a diverse range of inspirational people, including:
- scientists and environmentalists
- engineers and STEM professionals
- business owners and entrepreneurs
- members of the Armed Forces
- photographers and digital media professionals
- actors, performers and poets
- charity workers
- local councillors
- church leaders
- emergency services
- Coastguard volunteers
- musicians and creative professionals.
These experiences help children to:
- broaden their understanding of the world of work
- raise aspirations for future careers
- develop confidence when speaking to visitors
- understand how learning links to real-life opportunities
- appreciate the importance of contributing positively to their community.
By building strong partnerships with local organisations and inspirational members of our community, we help our pupils recognise that ambition, determination and curiosity can open the door to endless possibilities.
