Image of Working from Home 11th May 2020 - VE Day

A huge thank you to all of you who are continuing to keep us updated with the activities that you are doing with your children. It is lovely to be able to share the photos and to be able to keep our wider community updated. In these difficult and challenging times it is also so important for the children to continue to feel part of the school community so please keep sending the updates!

Riley and Archie have had a lovely time in the garden cleaning their diggers, painting stones and finding insects.

Frankie has sent a picture showing his home made VE Day bunting from Aldi bags!

Jamila decorated the house, made scones ( for the first time) and had a small street party with neighbours (whilst observing 2m social distancing). She also discussed the war with her family, listened to Russian war songs and discussed how VE day is celebrated in Russia and Latvia and why 9th May there is so important for the people.

Evie & Abigail have been doing some fabulous research about VE Day. They telephoned their great grandma Joyce who had been a pupil at Kirkham & Wesham School during the war to ask about her experiences. She told them about having to be fitted for a gas mask and having drills in the air raid shelter on the Cricket pitch but it was never used for a real raid. On VE Day there was a huge bonfire outside the old fire station at Wesham and everyone burned their window blinds and put their lights on. They also commemorated the day by putting up flags, dressing as land girls, watching Churchill’s speech and then having afternoon tea in the front garden.

Georgia has been keeping up with her Maths, baking and outdoor exercise as well as celebrating her 10th birthday during lockdown.

Charlotte has enjoyed the Flat Stanley story, she has sent us her letter as if she was Flat Stanley. She has also loved watching Junior Bake Off and she wanted to make a cake inspired by the programme. Charlotte called it ‘Waterfall’. Looks delicious!
